Earth Hour

Last night we were part of the annual Earth Hour. To show respect for Mother Earth, we turned off all the lights at Ola Lola's and operated just by candlelight, moonlight and the occasional flashlight. this is the first - but not the last - time we were part of Earth Hour.

As far as we know, Ola Lola's is the only Earth Hour participant on the west side of the island and may be the only participant on the whole island this year. In 2008, the first year of Earth Hour, one student in Rincon participated. In 2011 several cities on the east side (San Juan, Caguas, Farjado) participated but there is no record of them being part of it last year or this year. There is an Earth Hour organization based in San Juan but they haven't responded to our attempts to contact them yet.

Next year we plan to challenge all the other restaurants in our area to participate. We will also approach the municipios of Isabela and Aguadilla to participate.

It's a little thing - just one hour without light. We operate without lights pretty frequently courtesy of the electric company so it shouldn't be a big deal. But who know what big thing can come out of this little beginning.
