September 16, last time on the Icefield Parkway

We asked many of the bartenders and waitstaff we met what their favorite activity is. One bartender had a simple answer: Driving up and down the Icefield Parkway. He said he loved it because it is different every time. So it is.

After our hike to the glaciers on Mt. Edith Clavell, we hid the Icefield Parkway one last time. It still had a major surprise for us. I wrote before that if you see cars parked by the side of the road, stop and join them. There is probably something cool to see, frequently wildlife. As we approached one  particular bridge, one we'd crossed several time, cars lined both sides of the road. Of course we stopped.

There was a whole heard of big horn sheep on the side of the gorge. It was all females and juveniles including this baby.

Even the view from the bridge was a surprise. Even though we'd crossed this bridge several time, we had no idea this is what we were crossing:

From the bridge and the big horn we were back on the road for our last views of these mountains

a last look at Tangle Creek Falls

a last look at at the glaciers

and at the end of the Icefield Parkway a quick stop for a last look at Lake Louise.

From there we were on Hwy 1, the Trans=Canada Highway, for the run down to Banff.
