September 11, Canada, Day 10

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELAINE!!!

After another quick visit to the Tunnels and a two-hour hike over a mountain,

we hit the road headed north, up through the beautiful Okanagan Valley toward Revelstoke. Like traveling all the roads around here, there were lots of stops for sightseeing.

There was the occasional wrong turn looking for a sight we couldn't find. But those led to sights of their own.

Of course we had to stop at roadside fruit vendors. The Okanagan Valley is famous for its fruits and wines. After all, this is part of the reason the Hope Tunnels existed in the first place.

We reached our accommodation for the night -  a suite at the Revelstoke Mountain Resort well after dark.

The hotel, at the base of the ski area, is at nearly 512 meters (1,680 feet) and several miles out in the mountains from the town. Out in the remote parking areas there is no light pollution. We sat on the hood of the car and just stared at gazillions of stars, more than I've ever seen. I can't absolutely swear to it but I believe this is the first time I saw the Milky Way.

Happy Birthday, Elaine!
