Now, Wednesday, January 17 Day 118
Our friends Dale and Carolyn are back on the island. Today they came to pick up the car they've let us borrow.
At some point in the conversation water and electric - who has it - came up. They have both at their house. They have a generator which they are not using. They offered it to us to use.
We had our usual discussion about having a generator, this time tempered buy the fact the we haven't had electricity for four months and that it could be two months or more before get electricity restored.
I have to say, it is a certain badge of honor to be one of those who have not been off the island since the hurricane and who have not had electricity or a generator the whole time. Like people who live through winter in the north: we're tough. This is how we live, this is how we roll.
Therefore, it is with conflicted mixed feelings I report we now have a generator. We can get Wi-fi at home. We can keep food cold. Maybe the computer will work. I spent the first hour or so plugging things in to see what works and what doesn't. Some things I can tell because the generator just won't power them.
The other news is we talked with a representative from the Small business Administration about post-disaster business and home loans. We are going to apply. Hey, why not?
No rain today until evening and then only light rain.
