Septermber 22, 2017, Friday

Friday, September 22

We drove down the coast road (carr. 4466 and carr. 466) today. All the businesses on the ocean side of the road - Ocean Front, Mi Casita, Kai, Sondi del Mar - are all destroyed or at least severely damaged. Tsunami is on the other side of the road, away from the ocean and doesn't appear to be as badly damaged.

Other things we've heard:

-- During the storm we had sustained winds over 160 mph and gusts over 200 mph. That makes Maria a big Category 5 hurricane and the largest hurricane know to have hit Puerto Rico. Hurricane George was "only" a Cat 4.

-- In addition to the businesses in Jobos, we've heard Eclipse at Villa MontaƱa was destroyed.

-- The steps down to Shacks Beach near Villa Tropical were destroyed and are no more.

We're not sure when we'll be able to get down to "our beach and see for ourselves.

(Sorry there are no photos. The camera that had photos and video from this period went missing.)
